. . . so I know this is something I SHOULD remember but I just don't.
After I bring a SVG file into SCAL, how to I "ungroup" so I can move the "pieces" around on my mat to group items being cut from the same piece of cardstock? I'm just drawing a blank!

I believe you select it > Options > Ungroup > or Break apart -- BUT if you break apart it will break apart everything. For example the center of the letter "A"

If the file was created with layers or groups you can use Object/Ungroup to move the layers independently. If everything is on one layer you will need to use Object/Break apart. If you need to use Break apart, it does break Everything apart so you will need to be careful if anything has internal cuts. HTH
