Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
What program are you using to add the squares? If you are using Inkscape are you converting them to Path first?

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
Even tho im still having issues cutting layers, I found out ESP loads beautifully into SCAL, so i dont need inkscape at all!'I have had pretty good luck with EPS files using PhotoShop Elements. I open in PE and save as .png.
Then I can go to my eCAL and import it using auto trace image. RESULTS MAY VARY as they say.
I don't know how to get an EPS image into Inkscape, but the png would work and then trace there and save as .svg and use the import svg function to bring it into SCAL. RESULTS MAY VARY here too as it all depends on the complexity of the file.
Please come on back and let us know what worked and what didn't.
Still need help with layers and cutting and how to trouble shoot that! see one msg above

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
I think I know what you mean, but a pic (and/or the file) will help as I'm not sure what the fix is.
it kind of sounds like the layers have the image at different sizes

Lacy, the easy answer to the cutting layers to just turn the "eye" off in the layers panel for the pieces you do not want to cut so you only see one color at a time. Then cut. Then close that eye and turn on the next the next color piece.
I don't really understand the purpose of the color squares but I'm not familiar with your cutter.
I also noticed that there is a rectangle around each of the pieces and there are three or four of them. I don't understand the need for the rectangle.
Perhaps you can elaborate on the reason for them, If I only wanted to cut the pieces the rectangle and the squares seem redundant.
Another way of cutting all the pieces is to separate them on your ;mat by color in quadrants and place you papers accordingly on the mat. I eyeball the using the rulers to match up the image to the paper I've placed on the mat.
I hope this helps, at least until someone else comes along with another answer.

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
Are the different colored squares for alignment of vinyl? If so, then just use one set of squares (either just one square or two squares in opposite corners). Then always leave the squares visible and hide/reveal the other colors as you cut them. HTH

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
Yes! I realized that two squares is waaaay easier than 8!
I also put the rectangle around, because my cutter is 24" and i want each color cut to be the same size.
My problem was, tyhat the cut was cutting wrong and causing things to be unalignable.... No sure why. But i was able to do the job as i just cut each color out with the whole design (my due date was the 8th for that job, but i did it and thats all that matters!!)
Also, For a different topic, lets say I am making a 48"x48" circle, and my cutter is is only 24". I obviously need to cut two pieces and line them up (this is for wall decore) but how would i set that up in SCAL?

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
I have read this thread and I am now even more confused.
I have an EPS and I tried to import it into SCAl but it would not do it!
I thought SCAL could import EPS or is this just the PRO version. It seems the pro version is needed for lots of things I need to do. I find a decent program and start learning it then find I need to spend more money just because I have a US cutter based cutter (even though its actually NOT a US cutter)
DO I need the pro version to import this file , is my short question?
LOL I just tried to attach/upload the file and found the attachment EPS is not allowed am I dreaming or something??

Re: Learning and needing a bit of guidance
Perhaps if you would say which OS, cutter and what version of SCAL you are using someone with the exact configuration could help you. There are so many configs now that this info is really necessary, or you could contact support@craftedge.com who would ask for the same info.
