Help with Inkscape

I imported a JPG file into Inkscape. Saved it as an SVG file, but when I open it in SCAL, all I get is a blank box. I know there's something really dumb I'm doing wrong, but wanted to see if you all could help point me down the right path

did you just open it & then save it without doing anything else? if you did --that won't do it .


you must first trace the jpg.
