What comes first? Welding or curving text

Post by kelsie94 »

If I wanted to create a welded word, what would I do first? Weld all the letters together first, or create the word in a curved manner, then weld?

I've done the tutorials separately on welding and using the curve but not sure about combining the two.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Are you using text on path? If you are then you have to curve them first, since they need to be text to do that. Then you can adjust the spacing if you want, Path/Object to path, etc. :D

Okay, just so I completely understand........I'm starting from a blank slate. I would type what I want, put the text on a curve, then weld the letters together?

You would probably need to adjust the spacing first unless you are using a mat behind it. With the text tool selected, place the curser between the letters and use Alt arrows to adjust the side to side and vertical spacing. You can also use Alt and [ or ] to rotate the letters. After you like what you have you would use Object to path and then Path/Union if you are welding.

Thanks Heather. I'm just playing around with it......practicing.

Another question!!
I created an oval, then typed the word Halloween. When I go TEXT, PUT ON PATH, the word goes to the BOTTOM of the oval. How do I get it turned around so it shows on TOP of the oval. The arrows around the word just resize it, or move it off the oval altogether.

The Alt + arrow keys don't seem to work for me at all. Must be missing something!

Here are my steps:
The text was highlighted (arrows around it) I chose the text tool and placed it at the beginning of the word. I hold down ALT and try to use the arrow keys but nothing moves. Am I missing a step?

It's hard to say without seeing it. Try using the arrows to move the cursor between letters, then see if it works.

Flip the oval to change where the text is.

Thanks so much Heather! I got it to flip, and I also got the Alt + Arrow keys to work.

I may have to come back with more questions if I now can't get it to weld for me LOL!!

This may sound strange but how come when I click on the Text Tool I can only SOMETIMES choose a font? Most times the "apply" button is greyed out so I can't choose a different font!
