Stick Figure Help

Post by Teda »

I'm new to SCAL4. I have a Brother Scan N Cut and would like to create some stick figure decals for my car window.

I can create the line drawing, but when it cuts out, the cut is made ON the line, instead of on either side of the line. So, instead of being left with a stick figure that I can remove from the sticky vinyl, I'm left with a piece of sticky vinyl with a cut out of a stick figure. How do I get SCAL to cut on both sides of the line I've made?

I've been told I need both an inner and an outer cut line and was told to try using the Effects -> Shadow Layer on the single line to try to get the inner and outer generated. It does generate the shadow, but it distorts a portion of my line drawing. Also, when I do the preview, it shows three cut lines...my original line and then the additional inner and outer shadow lines.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I did this very quickly to ensure that this is where you want to go with making your stick figures. I used the rectangle and the circles from the shape library and arranged as I wanted, then did a path union. I will be around today if you have more questions.

Susan,

Thank you so much for the quick reply and the excellent drawings and notes.
I realize now that my question may not have been formed correctly. I was actually able to draw the stick figure, but when the Scan n Cut sees the lines, it cuts the actual lines, and I wind up with more like a paper doll. I really want just the lines of the stick figure to cut out. I would like him to be “hollow” so that you can see through him when he is stuck to a window or mirror. I know this is hard to visualize, but when I draw the circle for the head of the stick figure, I really just want the outline of the head to cut out…so when the cutting is done, I’m left with a circle with a hole in the middle, rather than a disk in the form of a circle. Basically, the circle then would look like a round frame. I need the cutter to recognize that I want it to cut both outside of the circle line and inside the circle line…and leave me with only the line. I assume it’s easy enough to make a large circle and then another smaller circle inside, but what about other, non-standard shapes? How do I get the Scan n Cut to see both sides of a line?

Thank you for your time!

ok, I understand now. There are about a gazillion stick figures on the internet....some are free. You can download them in jpg, png or svg and import into any scal program and work from there.

Sorry this is not the answer you wanted, but maybe someone will come along.

If you could post a pic of what you are looking for perhaps that would help
