SCAL3 Question

Post by TOASTER »

I have SCAL2 now and a Cricut machine. I want to get a new machine but can't afford one now. My question is this: should I upgrade to SCAL3 so I can use SCAL with a new machine in the future or should I wait until I get a new machine?

I guess it won't cut with the E...but I saved the setup on a stick for future, if I ever get a different machine. Thanks for pointing this out...did not know it was available.

Here is my question....does this update still work with the Expression? Getting a daughter ready to send to college and really can't afford a new machine right now.

Thanks for the info. I supposed I'll save it too. I know there's a major ban against PC, but I really do like my Cricut and plan on using it until it dies. I actually have two and I don't expect to be purchasing a new machine any time soon. This whole situation just makes me sick to my stomach. I feel like such a traitor. I guess I just won't mention the "E" anymore. :(

No the newest version doesn't work with any cricut machine but what I"m wondering if per say that we did buy and ecraft machine or any of the others if we have to pay for this latest update?? I just can't justify having to spend another 56 dollars on something I already have :S

Version 3: Compatible with Craftwell eCraft™, BlackCat Cougar/Lynx™, BossKut Gazelle™, Silhouette SD™, and CraftROBO/Graphtec™

Pasted from the CraftEdge website. Looks like it doesn't work with the Cricut. I have the Gazelle and am going to try this update Saturday. The Gazelle software has a dongle which is easy to misplace and cost 129.00 to replace cuz you have to buy the software again.

Per the site I just read through it. If you have SCAL2 and upgrade to SCAL3 for the new machines support the upgrade is free to you.

Now realize if you upgrade to version 3 the support for the Cricut is no longer there.

Here is from the site:

From the Download Page:

Version 3: Compatible with Craftwell eCraft™, BlackCat Cougar/Lynx™, BossKut Gazelle™, Silhouette SD™, and CraftROBO/Graphtec™

Version 2: Compatible with Cricut™ (Personal, Expression, Create & Cake)

From the Products page:

What's New in Version 3
Sure Cuts A Lot 3 has the same great features of Version 2 but includes support for a variety of electronic cutting machines. While version 3 does not support the Cricut™, it does support the following:

* Works with Craftwell eCraft™
* Works with Black Cat Cougar/Lynx™
* Works with BossKut Gazelle™
* Works with Silhouette SD™
* Works with Craft ROBO/Graphtec™ machines including Wishblade™ (Windows Only)

Also from the Products page the part about the upgrade:

If you previously purchased Sure Cuts A Lot 2 and wish to use our software with a different cutting machine, you can upgrade to Sure Cuts A Lot 3 for free.

You are right there is a major boycott on Cricut, but most of us are still continuing to use our machines, we are not all able to afford new machines, so it is ok to join the boycott, it just means we are not purchasing additional products from them, and to let them we are not happy with their poor business ethics and practices. There is a whole lot of really good information over there, about anything related to PC and discussions from other companies with the other machines, asking us as crafters what we want, and how they can help. Theres info about the rules of PC's MB and the new CCR which is wanting us to update firmware thus making our machines useless. So be carful with that. Theres info on the CCR keeping your designs. It is really quite informative tjread and really no bashing just a lot of fact stating and investigating other sources, I really hope you check it out. We all purchased these machines and cartridges for a reason, and m
as I stated we will continue to use them till they die, or we decide to get a different machine. No one holds that against any body, so please dont feel like you are not welcome there...It really is quite informative

Does all of this mean that SCAL makers and PC have settled or come to an agreement???

The boycott against PC is a great way of showing the company that people are not going to stand for their antics.
What also needs to be addressed are all the alternatives that are out there for replacement parts for the Cricut. The boycott won't work if we continue to spend money for Cricut items (ie. Replacement blades, mattes, cartridges, etc).

We need to communicate with one another of the items that work with the Cricut without purchasing PC items.

Now her is what I know from using blades. Roland blades available on Ebay work with the Cricut you just need to play with them a bit to get the right setting. As with anything you need to try it out to get it to work correctly.

For Mattes I've heard Pazzle mattes work with the Cricut, this was from the boycott site on FB.

Use MTC or SCAL to bypass all the cartridge buying.

If anyone has further suggestions I say post them up.
