Need help..Dumb Question???

Ok I know you can go to website for free fonts and dingbats. Can you tell me how to get them from the website into SCAL? I need a 101 class. LOL. I had the directions at one time and can't find them anywhere and I don't remember how to do this. I know I somehow have to get it out of a zipped file or something. I have Windows Program. HELP....
