Ungroup and layer in SCAL 2

I found a great SVG that I would like to cut. My problem in that the file has all the parts seperated but not according to color. Is there a way in SCAL that I could put each piece of the same color into a layer so that I could cut? I am quite new here so sorry if this has been answered before. I am having trouble finding a tutorial. Thanks
