Break Apart SVG files

Post by Crystal »

If an svg file has multiple designs on it, but I just want one of them, is there a way to break it apart so that I don't have to cut everything on it?

Thanks

Crystal :)

Drag your mouse to create a box around everything and then go to Object and Ungroup, and see if you can then click on what you want to delete and just use the delete button on your keyboard. If not, drag a box around things again and go to Object Break Apart and continue to try to select the sections you want to delete.

I only have the original scal :( I didn't get the chance to upgrade. Is there a way to do it in inkscape maybe?

yes you can do it in inkscape. first, save the file as a new name if you want to keep the original file intact.

highlight the image by dragging your mouse over it.

then look at the bottom of the screen, it will tell you if the object is grouped.

If it is grouped then go to Object/Ungroup, and the message bar at the bottom of the screen should have changed. you may have to do that several times if the object was grouped several times. (or a shortcut is Control+Shift+G)

Then you can move the various parts around and or delete the parts you don't want.

Hope this helps, if not, keep asking questions, we are here to help!
