Unfortunately, even after a reset, I have the same results. DS works fine. I have SCAL 1 because I can't justify spending money on #2 when I've never been able to get #1 to work properly. I just ended up making the card with my cartridges. Not very unique-looking, but better than nothing :) Waiting for the SCAL service people to tell me what the heck is going on, but would love to hear from anyone who has an idea, or who has had this prob. Thanks for the help, so far!

Maybe your security software is trying to block the program.
I think this is a very unusual problem.

I have cut this with both scal 2 and 3no problems. when cutting with the cricut and scal make sure you are cutting within the allowed cutting space if you are cutting in the area of what is referred to as the no cut zone around the mat edge you will get a cut looking like the one you have above. in the circle it is in the area of the no cut move it in some and try cutting a circle you need to stay about a 1/4 inch from ther edge of the virtual mat there is a dotted line on the mat keep all items inside away from that line and see how it cuts.
