New computer please help

Post by craftincountry »

My computer died due to a power surge. I have a new one now, one with windows 7 ( I can't find anything). I found what must have been the last SCAL disc on the internet. It is installed and working well up to the time to cut. When I start to cut , a box comes up with ERROR while trying to cut. Can anyone help me with this. I really need to be making tumblers, I am 2 weeks behind.

Thanks

Mary

I have windows 7 so may be able to help with that. However, as far as your error is concerned I can't offer any advice, so sorry. I am pretty novice myself but dont you have to reload design studio? I could be wrong, but maybe that will help. Someone will be along in a minute to correct me and point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Hello:
if you have loaded the drivers you should be ready to go. Although when they set up my computer the tech told it in SCAL to "run as administrator" and on XP mode. This was the same with all my graphics programs. If you're still having trouble might try that. I run Windows 7 and 64 bit and SCAL works beautifully.
Good luck

What kind of cutter do you have? If you have an 'E' or bug, the 'latest Scal 3' will not work with them. You will have to contact CE support with your registration number for your Scal2 if that is what you had and have them send a link to reinstall that.
Good luck.

It may sound silly but do you have your cricut connected to your computer? Try unplugging and plugging in both the computer and the cricut. Also, you may try to plug something else in the USB slot to make sure it works. I had a computer that a USB port never worked. Or you may even try changing USB cords.
Good luck, let us know what happens.

Do you have to have design studio for SCAL2 to work? If I load DS with the disc it won't open with windows 7. If I download trial version I have to update thus not being able to use SCAL. so, I guess what I am asking is there a way to make windows 7 and the old version1 DS compatible?

Make sure that your Cricut is connected directly to your computer and not through a hub, monitor, or keyboard. I run SCAL on my Win7 machine in XP compatibility mode, others have said that they also need to run as administrator. If you need to do this, de-activate your SCAL first (SCAL Help menu) then change the compatibility and re-activate your SCAL.

There is no need for DS if you have the correct firmware on your Cricut. What Version of SCAL2 are you using? If it is lower than 2.043 you will need to contact CE for it. http://www.craftedge.com/support/lostsw.php

Also, check your SCAL preferences (Edit/Preferences) and make sure that the Cutter tab shows the correct machine.

If you have the baby bug it may be necessary to select "Do connection check" (also in the cutter/preferences tab).
