Cutting beyond the parameters

Post by pastda3 »

I was trying to use a template for the scalloped edge and I thought I needed to place my cutting lines beyond the mat parameters so it would cut only the side of the scalloped edge. However, it cut about 1/2" or so inside the mat's edge. Am I making sense? I also extended another template about 3" wide and what I thought would be 12", but it cut 11 1/2". Do I need to reposition my paper? Does it not cut beyond 11 1/2"? I'm probably doing something really dumb, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Well, I have two coupons for J's, so out I go to see what I can spend some $$ on. TIA for any responses. Will check back later.

I still have cobwebs in my head, so I'm not sure whether I'm following you or making sense.

If you look on the mat in the SCAL program, you can see dotted lines going around the mat. The dotted lines are the outside edges SCAL and they are about 1/4 inch inside the solid line on both the SCAL mat and the physical mat you insert into the Cricut. SCAL will not cut beyond the dotted lines. HTH

I don't really understand what you are saying but I will tell you that the machine will not cut outside the "cutting line". Photo attached below.

It should cut up to the red lines in my image. It will never cut outside those dotted lines unless SCAL changes their software to do so. Is that the problem you're having, that you're trying to get it to cut between the dotted lines and the outer solid line? There is about 1/4 inch difference between the two lines.

If I understand correctly, your image IS within the dotted lines on the SCAL mat? How about the solid gray line around your image to be cut? Is it within the dotted lines? If not try moving the image so the solid lines that surround your image is within the mat's limits and see what happens.

I knew I wasn't making myself clear. So let me ask a simple question. Does SCAL only cut up to 11 1/2" long, wide, whatever? It won't cut a true 12"; right? Thanks to those who tried to answer my "convoluted" question.

Using the 24" mat, you can have a length up to 23.5 inches...but only 11.5 inches high.

It does not cut 12" x6" for the little bug - it's something like 11 1/2" x 5 1/2".

The cut goes only to the dotted lines. It will never cut along the solid gray line.

I guess I still can't explain clearly what I was trying to do. All I wanted was one scalloped 12" side, so I tried to extend the cutting line beyond the mat on the other three sides, but it still cut inside the line all the way around and left me with 11 1/2" on three sides with the one side scalloped. Does that make sense? But thanks for all the answers anyway.

I'm sorry I'm not answering your question. All I can tell you is that you will never get one scalloped 12" side. It can only be 11 1/2". SCAL only cuts between the dotted perimeter and never all the way to the solid lines. The solid lines are 12". The dotted lines are 11 1/2" and that's all that SCAL will cut.
