Text in a Circle Template

In both situations, my new wording did show up on the screen but in a diagonal line. Is there a step I'm missing to make the template work? Do I still have to path, then text to path?

I get the same thing. It looks like it will work, until you try changing the text. I tried creating another file in AI and did preserve AI editing capabilities, but it was the same thing. I think you're going to have to go at this the same as before - no shortcuts.
