Nodes question

What is the difference between the round and square nodes? Or is there really ANY difference? When I initially look at the file, they're all square. But once I click on one to select it, round ones appear as well.

This is probably a pointless question but I'm curious. Someone please cure my curiosity!

square ones: dot to dot--where you cutter travels from one to another. can be moved or deleted.
circles: attached to the suares; can be moved in all directions to change the shape of the line. if you delete a square, the cirlces attached to it get deleted as well.

The square ones are the nodes. The round objects are the ends of the handles for the nodes. All selected node should show a handles (sometimes they are retracted and you have to pull them out to use them) which is the easiest way to manipulate the nodes.

Thank you! I get it now. I kept clicking on squares and seeing circles pop up, so I'd click on the cirlces and, well, it was just making a mess.

I've always just grabbed the node and moved it....I would see those little circles and pretent they weren't there! LOL What's the difference in using the handles???

I have been playing a bit with them today.
The handles turn the line that the node is on - it makes it go in different directions so sometimes you can have a node line that is sticking up and by using the handles you can turn it to downwards.
Sort of something like that anyway in very basic terms.
