New 1.009 update ? what's new

Post by NELS »

Does anyone know what this new update does or fixes? :?: I did it and can't figure out if anything has changed. I cut shadows of a word and I don't remember it being as slow as it was. Someone else made a observation on it being slower cutting shadows too.

Not that I saw. In fact on the download page it was still showing 08 but 09 downloads, or at least it did yesterday when I saw on the MB that there was an 09.

Don't know what 09 added except "cancel" seems to be working. What I do know from experience today is that it slowed down cutting to a crawl and anything with shadow to a creep.

I contacted Todd about this yesterday and this was his response:

The shadows cut a little faster in the previous version, but in some cases it didn't product smooth shadows, because it used less points and looked jagged at time.
The current version uses more points to make it look smoother, but since there are more points, it will take longer to cut.

We can maybe add another option to use less points, but then if it looks bad on the screen, you could change the parameter to include more points to make it look better.

It's hard to find an automated balance as it is a generic algorithm that needs to be applied to any shape, and of course it is always easy to see if it looks ok when a human looks at it, but trying to have a computer automatically do it to try to get it to look correctly with the fewest amount of points can be a hit or miss at times.

Sincerely

I'm still confused as to what the update for 09 is. It was version 08 that slowed down the shadow cuts, I haven't downloaded 09 yet.

I don't have any trouble at all with the speed of the shadow or how it looks in version 1.007. I wonder why it needed to be changed? I would like to have the updates that are coming out in 1.008 and 1.009 but I'm not willing to wait for the shadow's to take literally 25 times longer to cut.

I've used the "cancel" feature since I downloaded 07 in the beginning and had no problem with that.

I've updated to this new version, but I'm still not sure what it changed. I've also noted that some fonts still disappear when shadow is used ... Cursif is a font that doesn't seem to work well with the shadow feature. Anyone else have this problem?

Also, tried shadow with BlackJack font, looked very jagged on some letters. I thought this new version fixed that?????
