Help with Eraser tool or getting rid of lines

Post by dolanqt »

I have attached a project that I am doing. I am coming across 2 problems. The first is that the cricut is taking forever to cut each circle. I tried to simply it but it takes the shape away. It shouldn't take that long to cut simple circles.

Suggestions???

The second thing i am looking to do is to just have the cricut cut the bubbled edge and small cirlces but get rid of the rectangle lines. everything I have tried gave me a new line which I don't want. Basically I want it to cut the edge of the paper but not go around it.

Suggestions for that?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

If you open it back up in Inkscape and choose the node tool you can see what looks to be many hundreds of nodes on the circles. This will cause a slowdown on cutting, waydown. If you want to do away with the rectangle part of the graphic just delete the nodes that is in rectangle. It will shorten and make it a boarder instead of a card.
simplifying the nodes will help this slowdown but just in case it doesn't you can change the speed in the Scal program. I really dont like to this this because it sometimes causes rips and tears if it is too fast.

Hope this helps

oNe thing I forgot to say about the nodes. If you want to simpfly without using the function just select one of the nodes then hit delete. One at a time will help retain the shape somewhat.

And there is setting on the simplfy option on the sensivity of the amount it reduces.

I am using Inkscape version 0.46, and under File/Inkscape Preferences, and under Misc, I ahve set my simplification threshold to 0.0001

As far as deleting the nodes to make it aborder it just moved the line. I just want to cut the edge not a small part if that makes any sense. So one end would just be open with no lines. Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks everyone for your advice and help:)

Still unsure, but seems if you have an open object it would just cut the sides inside and out minus the one opened end. Wouldn't this just cut inside the line and leave a sliver for the edges and the circles would be cut out of what would normally be discarded cardstock. Not sure I if I understand your question. This one is beyond my knowledge of Inkscape. Hope someone else can answer you. Heather is real good with inkscape I believe.
Good luck

You would use the node tool in Inkscape. Select the node tool, then two adjacent nodes where you want to break the Path, then click this button Image to break the path. HTH

That node tool worked perfect except when I brought it into SCAL it wanted to put a line on to make it one continous object. Any way around that?

You all have been a HUGE help....Thanks!

You need the more recent versions of SCAL2 to do this (2.010 or newer I think). Also, the file can't go over the edge of the cutting boundary on the virtual mat or SCAL closes the shape. The fastest way to do this is to use the alignment buttons. HTH
