What if you took 3 or 4 ( or more ) sheets of clear contact paper and stuck them together and then stuck them to a mat with the sticky side up to hold your paper. You might have to desticky the contact paper a little, but it might work.

Todd,
It works best if you just tape the edges of the paper down over a piece of springy buffer material that is stuck to the mat. Since you are not cutting through, you don't have to adhere the paper to the mat across the entire surface and then the paper can travel more freely into the grooves the embossing makes than if it were fully secure.

I wonder if you could just cover an old mat with puff paint or elmer's glue in a thick layer and let dry?
I remember as a kid making window clings with colored elmers glue that turned into a soft flexible material.

I'm not into imbossing but I saved my old dull blades just in case I wanted to try it. Forgot to say as far as the soft mat, what about getting a square of fun foam, like in the kids craft section, and attact it to an old mat and use a little spray adhesive to attach to cardstock to it and emboss. Hum I might want to try that.

I own the embossing kit already, but still found this video interesting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSs_mxqI ... r_embedded They sell the tan mats at home depot for a couple bucks. They are called Gasket Rubber pads. I have not tried this method myself yet sense I already own the embossing kit.

Yes the only thing I had to do was find a different mat peice because my son has a severe latex allergy.

first I want to say I love amy's embosser kit but my main problem is the mat i need to find a subsitute and have been on the look out for different ones well here is one I found to day it is non adheasive but the thickness is just perfect out of a 12" iwde roll and 7' &I got 7 mat peices that I can glue to mats this suff is sturdy and in the middle has fibers that help make it last longer is is a better solution than the silicone mat as it is cheaper 4.98 at Menards this breaks down to about .72 cents each not bad in my book here is a link to see the product I am referring to.
