I have another question

Ok while I asking questions here is my problem. I go into Inkscape and bring up a dingbat. I do the outline, path union and then trace bitmap but I don't get a 2nd image. I am able to get it to work on an imported image but not a dingbat. I have tried the Topicana dingbat and a Ships dingbat. The Topicana has extra lines I don't want. The ships works for me but thought I could make the ships a better cut if I did this. I hope I am not being too confusing.. Thanks for any help.

for a dingbat, all you have to do is path:object to path---no tracing bitmap.

you can clean up the dingbat by deleting or moving nodes around. click the 2nd tool on the left side toolbar after you trace the dingbat. all the nodes should appear--you can move them around, delete them--add nodes inbetween, etc. etc. just play around with the nodes until you get the file looking like you want it.
