gonna toss cricut out the window

Post by marie101 »

well not really but I sure feel like it. Scal 2 is throwing me for a loop. I d/l some really cool graphics in jpg, can't remember if the link to them was from here or another board, that's not important. I then went to Mobilfish to convert a couple of them into a file that can be used with scal. Wrong.... How do I convert a jpg into an svg? This whole thing has me so confused I just want to walk away & never look back. Even machine embroidery wasn't this hard for me to learn. Help please. Thank you very much. Oh yeah, the instructions need to be in "idiot" terms. Marie

DON'T DESPAIR! Begin here:

It's pretty scary at first, but keep playing around with it and one day it will click! Good luck.

This is so true! Its all over whelming at first. There are so many on here who are good at hand holding and getting you through. So many tutorials as well.
You will find alot of help on utube as well. The videos are great. The link that was given to you is wonderful. Just one step at a time and your going to be as addicted as the rest of us.
I cant wait to see what you start creating. When you have begun take a picture of it and just let us know and we shall help you get it on here for all of us to admire. Have fun! }:O)

Yup, I just found Inkscape couple months ago, and am still learning something new everyday. My favorite is taking coloring pages and play with it, seeing what works, and what doesn't. You can see on my blog that I've been playing a lot with coloring pages. There's also an Inkscape manual online somewhere.... Don't throw your Cricut out the window. :-)

Totally OT - FYI Amanda, when I tried to download Taz from your blog, it was linked to the download for Daffy Duck.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean but this is what I do. I scan anything I want and save it as a jpg. I then open SCAL, go to File, Trace Image, then Browse, and find my scanned image, hit OK and it is now on my worksheet where i can break it apart as I want. I'm new at this and there may be an easier way to do it, but this has works for me. HTH

Thanks everyone who offered help, but I've spent 2 days now trying to figure this out & I still don't get it. So, I've decided the easiest way for me to do it is not to. I ordered a CD full of ready cut files & that's what I'm going to do.
Thanks again everyone & have a great weekend. :) Marie
