Lost keyboard

I seem to have lost the virtual keyboard that pops up along with the library of fonts and the properties table. Used to be able to retrieve it from going to Window and finding it on the dropdown table but now it's not there. There is something called shapes table but it doesn't seem to activate anything. Has anybody experienced this and know how to get it back?

Did you go to Edit, then Preferences and click on Restore Defaualts...?
