Post by irisheyes21 »

Just bought the new Cricut Firmware 2.31 and I use a MAC do I understand correctly there is no SCAL available yet for this? If not, does anyone know when it is expected out? Are there any other options? Thanks in advance-

Hello and congratulations on your new toy.

You can use the original version of SCAL (SCAL1) right now. Windows users have SCAL2. The Mac version of SCAL2 was promised by the end of the year.

That leaves you with a dilemma...buy now and then have to buy again when the newer version comes out. There is no good answer since we don't really know when the new version will come out, how stable will it be, how many fixes before it really works. Windows users had quite a few problems in the beginning. I'm hoping that those fixes are incorporated into the Mac version and we MIGHT be safe from the get-go.

So there you go...

I did try to purchase Version 1 for Mac but it said I had to email them if I was interested in purchasing-not sure why? It wouldn't let me directly purchase it. Maybe I can try the Trial version for now. Thanks

That may be VERY good news. I'm hoping it means that the Mac SCAL2 version is "almost" ready and they don't want anyone purchasing NOW and yell in a week or so when the new version comes out and you have to pay more. This happened with Windows.

If you can get the trial version now, I'd do it. Remember that you can't cut anything with the trial (well you can but you get a big slice in the middle of your cut) It would give you some practice getting used to the Cricut and the software.

Here's wishing!!!

I downloaded it and was wondering why I was getting the big slice down the middle-thank you for your help. Hopefully they contact me soon....I would even be willing to purchase the first version if the other one is going to be out in the next week or so.

They have not been selling SCAL for Mac for a while now (since about mid-October), I believe due to the fact that the older version of DS was needed to get the right firmware. With the plug/unplug USB workaround, though, SCAL for Mac should work with 2.31, at least it does with 2.32. I would see if they would sell SCAL1 to you. If version 2 comes out soon there should be a grace period like there was for the PC version.

BTW this is awesome news for Mac users that new Cricuts come with firmware that works with SCAL out of the box!

I am hoping they will sell SCAL1 to me...I am anxiously waiting for them to return my email. Does anyone know if the return emails in a timely manner? I wish I knew they weren't selling the Mac SCAL1 because I wouldn't have rushed out to buy the Cricut-they still give you the option button on there website for MAC version then a message appears letting you know to contact them.

Hi Irish Eyes - Hoping you hear back soon on your upgrade. I recently had a problem logging on to this forum and they got back to me in a timely manner.
I am on a Mac too. One thing you can do while you wait for SCAL is practice cutting with the cartridge. It takes some practice getting the settings just right for different paper weights. You can also start collecting SVGs (either free and purchase) and start your library so you'll be ready to roll. You will love SCAL - I DO! Good luck!
