Just not getting how to trace bitmap - help please

I have been reading and practising and just not getting it. I am sure there is something really simple that I am missing but I can't seem to be able to select the object I have in my screen print in Inkscape.

Does anyone have any pictures or REALLY easy instructions please? I am tearing my hair out here!!

are you importing a jpeg to Inkscape?

Yes, I am. It is a screen print from CDS pasted in Microsoft Paint, saved as a jpeg and then have tried importing/and opening project into Inkscape but can't get even near to tracing the image.

No, it's really simple. The screen print is from CDS with a pair of feet on the cutting mat - couldn't be simpler which is why I'm sure I have to be missing something. It would take me to long to read how to upload as I haven't done it before. If I work it out I will do it

what I would do with that image is open in adobe photoshop--or similar program--& crop it down to just the image of the feet. then save & open in inkscape & trace.

do you know how to trace in inkscape?

Unfortunately don't have photoshop which is why I was using Inkscape which doesn't appear to have a crop facility. I then can't work out how to trace anything

I'm sure you have some kind of photo editing program that you can use to crop it. you can get a free download of adobe elements online.

you can still trace it as is. you'll just have to delete the majority of the nodes & keep only those of the image you want.

I'd do it for you & post it--but it's just not right to encourage what you're doing with the Cricuts copyrighted images.

I'm sure I will find I have some photo editing software on my other computer but still don't know how to trace. I am working from a screen print of a file that I have on my laptop as most of my files are on my desktop. I am sure it would be easier to have picked a simple clip art to trace.
