Once a font has been converted to an outline, it is no longer a font, but a piece of artwork.

There are websites that can identify fonts by uploading a picture. Can you post a picture so we can take a look? We all use enough fonts here, so one of us might know the name.

That is very easy to do in Ink. You make your background pattern and your letter. There are some dingbats that would work for the pattern.
Assuming you used a font for both, convert both to Path
If you used more than one dingbat for the pattern, use Path/Union
Place the letter where you want it cut from the pattern
Select the pattern and the letter
Then Path/Intersection. :D

You have a blackout with jagged edges? If you knew what the font was, you might be able to get the letter the same size. It might be easier to shape it using the nodes, or use the bezier tool or one of the other shape tools to fill in the missing edges. Then select all of the pieces and Path/Union.

Ok, I did it, but there is no defined edge, like Todd's. The edge is open. Is there a certain font I should use?
Thanks for all your help!!
