SCAL on an external hard drive?

Post by sserguta »

I saw this post on the Cricut Message Board and I have to ask someone who knows about programs if this is possible.
Since she is talking about SCAL and you wrote it, is this possible? What about all the information that is held in the Windows Registry – wouldn’t the program need that information? Doesn’t make sense to me.

Thanks, Sharon

Okay, I'm sure most of you noticed I've been gone for a little while, (yeah, right), well anyways, my computer totally died on me. Could not even turn the darn thing on, the monitor kept blinking no power, but power was crusing through the thing as when I unplugged the back of it, I saw sparks! Anyways, low and behold, I guess it just needed a few days rest, went shopping yesterday to replace it and when I came home (did not buy one), I thought I'd give it another chance and it fired right up and has been fine since, knock on wood!

Anyways- on to my post now. I bought an external portable hard drive a few months back because my computer kept saying "low disk space", I copied/moved everything onto the portable hard drive. The hard drive plugs into a USB port and is about the size of a man's wallet. I had to pull some documents up for my dh so I took the portable hard drive to my son's laptop and low and behold, what can I open????? SCAL and DESIGN STUDIO!!! I guess I do not know anything about how computers work! Now I can unplug that little thing and use the programs on any computer anywhere! I've always wanted to get a netbook for the craft room where it woudn't take up so much space and this will be ideal now because I can plug the portable drive into the netbook using the USB drive and access both my programs!

Just thought I would share that with everyone that didn't know; if you have a portable hard drive, this would fix that problem of not being able to use the programs but only on one computer. (And I hope this is okay to post here, since we've already bought the programs I don't see why it wouldn't be.) :)

It's true! I have everything on my external hard drive. But, I don't unplug it to use on a different computer. I suppose I could, but there's no need for me to do it. I do not have my fonts on it though...wish I did b/c they seem to take up alot of space.

Good luck and CREATE :)

So... I have SCAL installed on my PC. All I have to do is copy the program files to an external drive and then unplug it and plug it into another PC and the program will work? It's that easy?

I truely doubt you can install it on a portable hard drive unless the drive had windows installed as well. When software is installed various files go into the windows system and also the registry.
If you plugged it into another computer that computer wouldnt have the needed files?
IMHO :D
