In both downloads there are layers. If you ungroup and then Choose the difference option like Dan99 has on one of his tuts it makes it all one single line/layer svg.

I can't even open this file again to take a look. Sometimes Illustrator can be a pain in the butt with SVG files.

could you be more specific? cause ink says i only have one layer and must select two paths to preform a difference

I didn't see any groups. The only thing that worked for me without crashing my program was to ungroup it, then delete all of the extra pieces. There is still something about the file though, because after I did that, then combined/exclusion, there was an extra line that that didn't show in Ink, but was gray in preview in SCAL. It will either not cut, or cut twice, I didn't get my baby bug out to check. I tried the usual copy/paste into a new file that usually takes care of these problems, but the line was still there. What program are you using to make these?

Heather,
I just opened your file and there was one stray horizontal line. Other than that, there were no double lines. Good job!

It's funny that you can see it, because no matter what I did in Ink, I couldn't see it or get rid of it. Also, when I Control A, it says 2 objects of Path and Rectangle, but I can't find a separate rectangle, and when I break it apart there are no rectangles, just paths. :? There is just something about this file.
Also, I didn't simplify the nodes at all, and I just noticed that there are over a thousand.

My age says I could be wrong but thought I would post what I saw, hope I'm correct but maybe not. Photo aka Layer A is from Heather M and found three layers. Photo aka Layer b is from Talanhart, I pulled it apart to show the layer. Photo aka Layerc is where I took Talanharts file and used the Difference oftion and then the frame and made it without Layers or should say double anything. I'm not good at explaining but remember when I had problems and needed answers. Of course I could be wrong on this one ;)

One other thing I loaded the jpgs a b c
