Cricut and SCAL
I'm sure this has been answered several times over and I apologize in advance but I haven't been here for a while and I am confused. So I purchased my Circut about 4 years ago, saved tons of files from SCAL or blogs, etc. and now most of them won't cut. I remember seeing something where SCAL won't work with the Circut anymore so I guess my question is this. All my files that I have saved useless now? Also, to use my Circut now I will only be able to use the Cricut cartridges?

Re: Cricut and SCAL
I'm assuming you owned SCAL before and If your SCAL worked before, it would still work now unless you upgraded the firmware on your Cricut recently. If you buy a new version of the Cricut, it absolutely will not work.
Your files are not useless if you buy one of the newer machines that don't depend on the cartridges. Many members are now using the Sizzix eClips and the Cameo.

Re: Cricut and SCAL
I had another thought on this. If some scal files cut and some don't it could be that there is something wrong with the Cricut as it would seem to me that all would or would not cut if it were a firmware issue.
Can you import svg or png/jpg files and trace and cut them?
Just another avenue to explore but after 4 years of continued use it might be time to consider a new one per Sandy's suggestion.

Re: Cricut and SCAL
Did the files that won't cut now ever cut correctly? If so then you need to look at what you have changed in your system. New computer? Update your Cricut? What version of SCAL are you using? If it's SCAL1 then you should be running 1.016. If you're using SCAL2 then you should have 2.043 or 2.044. If you aren't using any of these versions then you should request the last update released for your version.
BTW, The files are still perfectly fine if they were designed for cutting. They will work with any program/cutter combo that will cut svg files. Provo Craft decided that Cricut is no longer one of those machines. I gave my Expression away and I love all of the things that I can do with my new machine that the Expression couldn't handle.

Thank you all for your responses. Yes, I did update my Cricut so it sounds like that is the problem. The svgs used to work so that's not the problem. Sounds like I need to buy a new cutting machine but then the Cricut cartridges that I own won't work on it will it? Seems like such a waste of money to go out a buy a new machine when there is nothing wrong with my current one:(

that was provocrafts object, lock you into buying carts. you then build up a collection so you HAVE to buy their machines when you need a new one.

I sold my E and all the cartridges I owned. Made enough money to buy my Cameo and had some left $$ left over.lucrocs2001 wrote:Thank you all for your responses.
