Could someone clarify for me, please?

Post by *Angie* »

Hi all! I'm new around here :)

I just bought a Cricut, though I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I was looking into Design Studio and came across SCAL. I decided I'd much prefer SCAL to DS, so I went ahead and ordered SCAL.

Well, after that I read that there's some sort of issue with the version of SCAL vs. the version of Cricut, possibly making them not compatible... is that right? Does that mean that when I get my new Cricut, it won't be compatible with the SCAL program I've already paid for? The only reason I finally paid for a Cricut was the idea that I'd be able to use SCAL to cut all my computer fonts and not have to spend big bucks on Cricut cartridges.

Can anyone clarify the compatibility issue for me? (please someone tell me I'll be able to use SCAL once my Cricut arrives!)

Thanks so much!

(ps... there are a bunch of talented people on this board! I've had a great time perusing your awesome designs!)

You'll be able to use SCAL and you'll instantly love it!! You'll need the "trial version" of DS to update the firmware. Read the messages on the board so you'll know which firmware to update and you'll be set.

As long as you didn't get the Cricut Create you will be able to use SCAL. You will have to update the firmware using an older version of CDS though.

Here is the post with the software link (3rd post down).

When you get your cricut design studio trial version installed, it will prompt you to update the firmware on your machine. The newest version (from the Cricut site) is 1.3 or 2.3 depending on if you have the regular bug or the Expression. This is the version that SCAL does not work with yet. So, as long as you only upgrade to 1.1, 1.2, 2.1 or any of the older firmware versions, SCAL works just fine.
