Problem with Inkscape update?

I downloaded the new version and now I can't seem to get any font to work other than the one the program is defaulting to. Is there some trick that I'm not getting? I never had this problem with the earlier version. Unfortunately, I killed out the old version so I think I'm stuck. Any ideas?

A few of us have had this problem also. Here is what I do.

Up along the top of the screen in all the tool icons is a "T" icon. click there.

That will bring up the text tool box. Pick your font from that list, and click the lower left button "set as default"

Then you can close that box.

When you click on the "A" icon thats down the left hand side and open your text box, it should be the font that you selected a minute ago.

That is happening to me also. I tried setting it as the default in the little box you mentioned and when I do it shows up correctly in the preview...BUT it reverts back to the original font once the box is closed! I've even tried leaving the box open and I still get the original font....I have this problem in both versions!

Thanks for the instructions. I didn't even realize there was another way to select a font. Sounds like it must be a glitch in the software.

I've only ever used the top tool bar T as the drop down font menu has always given problems in all the other versions.
Sometimes, and this can happen, Inkscape doesn't like the font you have chosen and will not open it. You can see it in the default window but it reverts back to the last font used when you try to write with it. This used to happen with Saru's flower ding - it would come up fine in the default window but refused to work in the program - now I've seen with 0.46 that several of the dings that wouldn't open before now do, so something has changed. Maybe it's found another font it doesn't like
