double cuts lines

Post by marbet04 »

Hi there,
I did look to see if this problem has been posted before but could not find. I downloaded some of the flourish files from the SVG topic and set it up to cut and it cuts double lines one right next to the other so I have a double cut. This was so frustrating I know there must be a way to fix this and I would appreciate any help.
Thanks I am going to try and attach the file so you can see.

I couldn't find any double lines in the file. What size are you cutting it at? Is it small enough that the narrow sections aren't cutting well? Is is possible that you imported more than one copy of it into SCAL? Use the preview mode in SCAL and see if any gray lines show up. If they do then you have one copy over another in SCAL. HTH

Update
I cut the downloaded file at about 2.5" tall and didn't have any double cuts. I think you probably have 2 files stacked in SCAL.

I too am having this trouble. It doesn't matter whether I start with any photo file (jpg, giff, etc) Putting it into Inkscape to convert it to an svg file, which works ok. But once I open that svg in SCAL, it has double lines around it. Haven't actually tried cutting it yet, because I've read about this problem from so many others.

It has double lines because Ink traces both sides of your lines. It traces the EDGES of things. You need to select your trace, then from the menu Path/Break apart. At this point it is easiest to change to outline mode so that you can see all of the parts. You can then either delete the extra lines, or separate the pieces for a paper piecing pattern. There are some good tutorials on this.
