2 questions...using SCAL3 Pro

Post by frizz6907 »

Ok, two questions...

I need to make chevron font. Help! I've drawn the word, made a shadow and merged them. I've made my chevron. Now what do I do to merge all of them? I don't want to buy a chevron font (especially since I haven't seen one I really like).

Also, how do I split a letter in two? I want to make the framed family names. I've attached an example of what I'm trying to do.

Thanks!!

First of all do you mean chevron and in a letter with the extra parts around it as in your photo. In which case select all the pieces and make sure you only have two paths the use path/combine. If you have more than one path you may need to repeat this operation to combine two at a time until you end up with one path

One way to split the result in half is to convert the text to a path - if it isn't already. Check to see if it is a group - if so ungroup it and be sure that it is just one path (again path/combine becomes useful)

Drawn a thin rectangle slightly wider than your letter and convert to path.

Place the rectangle in the centre of your letter, select both the letter and the rectangle and then use path / difference

You will get the centre part punched out. You will need to then use path/ break apart. Then select each half of the letter and use path/combine

You can then manipulate the two halves in anyway that suits you

good luck - would like to see your results

I got the letter to split in half, like the picture I posted! Thank you very much!!

I should have been more clear about the chevron font. I need to create the word "BAMA" with chevron within the font. I tried to take basically the same steps as what you mentioned for the other task. I'm still stuck. I've got the chevron patterned over the word but I'm unsure how to combine them without losing pieces of the letters.

Is this what you mean? You want to "fill" the text with a chevron pattern?

Well, we crossed paths. What you want to do is use your Chevron pattern (I assume it is a jpg or png file) as a pattern fill :D . I'll find the instructions to do that and get back to you in a few.

I got it!!! Whoop whoop!
I did it with the pattern fill.

Now, how do I make it cut the pattern. It looks good on the computer but when I preview what it will cut, it doesn't show the pattern.
