Adding fonts to control panel
Adding fonts to control panel
I'm still trying to figure out how to do this and not having any success. I download and save a font to a folder in my documents on my computer. Now to be able to use it don't I have to get it in my control paned in fonts. I opened the window to install the font and had the font in another window.. my documents but I can''t figure out how to get it there. I tried dragging it there.. but I must not know how that is done because I could not get it from the one window to the fonts window... It says in Drives , click the drive you want.. I'm not sure what drive that is. This makes no sense to me.. Sorry , If anyone can clear this up for me.. Thanks . I even went to the Help how to install fonts.. I don't understand. I have a HP computer with xp .
Re: Adding fonts to control panel
I'm assuming that you've gone to your control panel and clicked on the fonts folder. Then under File (again if it doesn't show up click Alt.) then Install Fonts.
A window will open and you will see a folder option and and a drive option. You're going to want the drive to be C: Do you know the name of the folder that you saved your fonts to? and where it is on your computer?
I just re-read your post and if it's in your My Documents then under the folders part of your install window double click on C: - double click on Users (? I have Vista so I hope it's the same) and then you should be able to scroll down and find My Documents and double click on that and then your fonts will show up above....
Again - If I'm only confusing you I apologize -

Re: Adding fonts to control panel
Look under the Bugs topic and see the message: How do I save font to my control paned where the rest. I wrote a reply to downloading and extracting fonts etc. Maybe that would help you.
Re: Adding fonts to control panel
Hi NELS, I'm also running XP, and this is how I do it.
Firstly, go to
Start > My Computer > C:drive (or whatever your hard drive is called) > Windows folder > Fonts folder
once you have the Fonts folder open, minimise it BUT DON'T CLOSE IT
Now, find the fonts you have downloaded. If they're zipped, you need to extract the contents. Then, you should be able to see, inside the folder of the font you have downloaded, an icon that looks like a blue page with TT on it. There will be other icons as well, but this is the only one you need.
Drag that blue TT page into your minimised Fonts folder and when the fonts folder opens, just drop the TT page in there. It should install now.
Sometimes the file itself is corrupted and won't install. There are really good and reliable free download sources, I expect someone will make a list soon (hint hint) and you should ONLY download fonts from reliable sources.
Hope this helps! =D

Re: Adding fonts to control panel
I'm hopeless.. I have followed directions .. did what you said. I can't find the font in my fonts folder (it's still in the documents folder) and it is a TTF font Windwalker 64- WWDelightful and someone on the Cricut board had it and used it. It's not the font .. it's me. I couldn't drag it and drop in the other window. Maybe I don't know how to drag and drop. I look at properties of this font and it says " Compressed item Properties. Type: ACDSee TTF Image. Location: (Active Root Directory) . Original size..198 KB. Zip Information..Compression . Deflated. Packed size.. "
Ok.. sorry about all this technical info. I am hoping someone who understands all this can help me. pig... what is your name.. I feel funny about addressing you this way.. but thanks for all your help. I even looked on my computer when I was in the fonts under Help and followed the directions there to install fonts and it still didn't work. I am missing something. Thanks....

Re: Adding fonts to control panel
I think I read something in your post which might explain your problem: You are dealing with a .zip file. This is a 'compressed' file that must be 'uncompressed' or 'un-zipped' before you can install it. Now I know how to do this but probably can't explain it too well, but here we go: First, your computer must have a decompression program on it in order to 'unzip' the file. You just might have this on your computer but don't realize it. Try just double clicking on the file first. See what happens. If it says 'extract' then you are on your way. But before you go any further than than, come back to this message and let us know what happens when you double click on the file.

If you will send me the file, to robbysmommyga@aol.com, then I will unzip it for you and then you can just load it into your fonts folder, when you download it.
It really is very easy, when I have time later, I will type you out step by step instructions. Do you have xp or vista? It's a little differenct for both.

Robbsmom,
It was Nels who was having the problem.
