Help! cutter keeps stopping mid-way

Post by mt123uk »

I'm using SCAL 3 and it's been working fine for nearly a year now but last week the cutter stops dead mid way cutting.
The machine stops dead and the blade/holder is stuck down.
On screen the dialogue box is saying 'cutting' but it's not moving. The only way to close the project is to 'force quit'.

So far I have done the following:
1. Ran Norton to search and repair virus, none found.
2. Open new project and re-designed.
3. Test using another design (all fine).

Any suggestion?
Maybe re-install software? But will I loose my files?

What cutter are you using and which OS system?

If other designs are working fine, it appears it might be the file. Maybe you want to upload it so the file can be looked at.

Re-installing software will not cause you to lose your files. They are on a separate folder on your computer.

I think there's a problem with the data being sent from my computer to the cutter.
I've since, re-installed and tried cutting different files but it only cut some of the file which I've never had a problem with in the past.

It basically stops at the same point every time which is always very near the end.
It might be my computer so I've booked to see a "Genius" on Monday, lets seen if he/she will earn the title :D

Well, the "Genius" ran test and found nothing wrong with my laptop.
I have re-installed the SCAL3 and ran a couple of test and only 1 cut all the way to end.

So, it's not the laptop or file(s), I've even changed the USB cable.

The only thing I can think of is whether SCAL3 can only cope with less complicated files?
The design I'm doing is very intricate.

Has anyone come across this?

sounds like a communication problem.
USB is NOT the best for data transfer. you might want to look into a keyspan.

can you post the file, maybe we can try and see if we can get the same error or not

have you reset the cutter - might not make a difference but worth a shot

Was an answer ever found for this? Today I have had 3 cuts out of 5 stop midway through.
Thanks,

I just had this problem yesterday using my husbands Pcut. Not a new issue. Finally had to split design in half and use registration marks.
