I have just bought the software licence so no problems so far, but I am just curious what happens if the laptop I have crashes and I have to reformat the hdd. Can you still deactivate the laptop so I can put the software on a new hdd?
(I know I can put the software on two computers but I would already have it on a desktop too)
The reason I ask Is this happened to me a few years ago with another software (isadora) and they were able to deactivate my machine manually
what happens if a hard disk crashes
Re: what happens if a hard disk crashes
I'm a pro at this..LOL...I have had to do this on many occasions due to the age of my computers..they are old but they still work..anyways your question...Just email Craft Edge tech support and they will reset it for you. They are really good when it comes to this. Just to give you an example...my laptop is a Dell Latitude C600..PIII with 512mb ram, 40GB hard drive and Windows XP. It runs everything I need and yes it's a bit slow but what the heck else do I have to do. It meets my needs and I really don't see the point of upgrading it because of my basic needs for it.
If you aren't learning something new everyday you might as well just lie in a grave and wait for death.

yeah the same thing, I use old computers because they have serial ports and are generally more reliable for running plotters. But the HDD's crash sometimes because of heat, or age etc.
My mac laptop is on its third HDD because I upgrade when I run out of space.
Good to hear the support people can sort out resetting the computer anyway.
At least you dont have to be online to use the actual software like some of the other software ive used. My desktop doesnt even have an internet connection unless I drag it half way across the house and use ethernet.
Ive been using scal for a couple of hours now and it seems to do a decent job for the price, especially importing directly from inkscape.

Re: what happens if a hard disk crashes
Just had a computer crash. I had saved my original email with the serial number that came when I purchased it. So, I just emailed craftedge and they reactivated the number so I could reinstall. Very easy, no problem, as long as you have your original email address and serial number.
