Word book help

I am very new to this and am rather confused about what to do where between SCAL and Inkscape. I would really like to make a mini scrapbook and have the word SUMMER down the cover edge and 2008 down the side of the back page out a bit more than the cover page. Can anyone help me with this or point me to a tutorial, perhaps on someone's blog or website? I have done a search here and looked at susanbluerobot (sorry if thats wrong) blog. What I have found is single letters, not full words and I cant figure out how to use that info to do what I want.

Hi, this might help you. It is "words" on the side and done only in SCAL, not Inkscape.
