HI. I am an eclips, ecal user.
I am making an invitation (baby's christening gown).
I want to print the inside of the dress and would like suggestions on how others have done this.
Thank you
Paula
advice for printing an invite
Re: advice for printing an invite
Hi, one way to do it is through file/print/preview from within eclips. This works for me on the Mac don't know about WIN, but you could try it, or try screen print if you have that option.
Alternatively you could capture the image and save it which gives you a jpg or a png and print. You could then open it with anything that opens jpgs and print. It really depends on what other applications you have.
I'm sure some Win folks will come along soon and give you a better answer.

Re: advice for printing an invite
Maybe create an inset shadow of the dress only, not the whole shapes card(assuming that is what you are making), type your text in ecal or create it in Word and PLACE an image of it inside the dress, then use the inset shadow cut to cut around the text, as you would with print and cut. Glue this inside the card bottom. If you do not want an additional cardstock inside, then layout your dress card in full, and insert the words however you choose to do that, and as you would with print and cut...cut around the entire card with the outline from your file.

Re: advice for printing an invite
Hi. I think I may be over thinking this. I opened it in Inkscape and did the text in that then tried to save it and print and cut in ecal. I had a lot of trouble with the fonts and so on. I would prefer not to go a cecind layer if at all possible.
Not sure I understand the save the screen shot and print in a program that opens jpegs.
I am well versed in paint shop pro (Corel).
Any additional help would be created appreciated.

From ecal you could make the dress no color and outline stroke black and export a png to open in your Paint to do the words, and then save as a png or jpg and TRACE in ecal for the final to break apart to hide the outline to print the words and then hide the words to cut the outline.
You could use a nice single line font and do this all in ecal, or any other font for that matter.

Re: advice for printing an invite
Following your directions step by step.
Two problems.
First I can't open jpgs in my ecal. (I have the file saved as a jpg and I am unable to find it and when I pick the file type I am looking for from the drop down box jpg is not an option.)
Second, I can open the png file, but I can't trace it.
I have gone to file/trace image and when I try to locate it as a png under trace it does not show up. (It is however open on my mat as an open and active file).
Do you have any suggestions for me?
I want to take a moment and thank you so very much for all your help to this point!

Re: advice for printing an invite
I hand made the card I was attempting to do earlier.
But, here is the file that I would like to learn how to use print to cut on.
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3630
When I followed the instructions listed (above) I found that after I resized the image to the size I needed, (5.30x 10-.530 ~ i unchecked keep proportions), then saved the adjusted file as a png., when I tried to open it there was a box around it that did not appear in ecal.
I opened it first in inkscape, and there is a 12x12 box around the image.
When I opened it in psp it was 5.5 x 5.5.
My preference is to use psp, however I can't seem to get the sizing right on it.
I would be open to putting the text in, inkscape, if someone can explain to me how to rid myself of this box around the image.
For anyone helping me with this. I want you to know I am not writing the minute I hit a road block. I am trying to learn through my errors and only when I just can't get anywhere on it do I ask for help. (At this time I have been working on this file pretty much non stop since 10am. Just thought I would add that so you know that I am not depending on the help of others rather than attempting to solve this myself.)
Thank you, thank you
Paula

Handmade is so special...so that is good.
But to do this file in print and cut...you would just do as shown in the last picture, using your Paint program for the words, or just type them in place in ecal. It is already just an outline...make two, and flip one upside down and overlap the first some and Path Union...then either place the picture .jpg of your words that you make in your program or type in directly in ecal. You print from ecal the words while the card is hidden using the eye to turn off in the layers, and then you hide the words, place the printed stock on the mat and cut the dress, using the method for pnc for ecal.
I am sorry I can not offer more knowledge of this for ecal.

Hi again. Thanks for responding.
I understand what your saying about just put the words in in psp, but, if it is opening as a 5.5x5.5 instead of full size, then the text size is going to be off.
(Did I explain that ok????)
I am currently doing searches on how to write in ecal. And make complete sentences...invite layout etc.

I have posted this as a separate topic hoping someone can offer some ecal advice
