Help with thick lines

Post by crazyhipfan »

Hi Everyone!

I'm having some difficulty with my first jpeg image that I have imported into SCAL2. I managed to trace the image, but when I try and cut, the Cricut cuts the thick lines as two thin ones (outlines of thick one?) I'm fairly new to this, so if someone with some experitse can help I would be very grateful!

Thanks in advance for your help,
Val

Sometimes when you trace, depending on the source you traced from, you get both an inside line and an outside line. If you open your image in SCAL and go to View - Outlines only, you will see a double line. Then go to your Tool and click on the one for the nodes and you will see nodes that follow the path of both lines. Your cutter will cut both of the lines.

If you go to Object - Break Apart you will see the image break into its pieces. You can pull apart the individual pieces of the dog and in the end you will see the shape of the dog. I am sure this is not what you want, but it is good to experiment and see what happens when you do this as sometimes all I want is the basic shape.

O.K. -- saying that. It does not solve what I think you want to do. To have the double lines fill in as a solid, you need to use a program like Inkscape or a Paint program that will fill in these lines so it is seen as one solid line.

If you can post your original jpeg, possibly one of us can help you create the image you want, but the best advice to give you is to start doing the tutorials and to really learn what you can do in SCAL and in Inkscape and you will catch on.

I am still always learning something new and bookmark others instructions and tips all of the time (and print them out).

Hope this helps and if anyone can add something or knows something different I am sure it will be appreciated.

Sandy - I saw this post last night and backed out because I couldn't think of how to explain it without making it more confusing. Thanks for doing the hard part. :D

I exported the image into Inkscape and closed up some of the lines. Then I separated and grouped the pieces (which there are many). I hope this this what the poster wanted.

I think that is probably what they wanted from the looks of it. Well now I have a question for you. I couldn't figure out how to get an scut file into Inkscape. I tried to import it and it came up as a file not recognized. Maybe I'll try again.
