Is there a way of having scal cut letter from the inside to out...as in D maybe, cutting the inner of the D first then cutting the outside...i cut fondant and cannot do alphas using SCAL as it cuts outside then the inner and of course the fondant just collapses as there isnt anything to hold it in place...is this possible, is there a setting anywhere...ive just used a cricut cartridge and it cuts the inners first then the outside and it cuts perfectly.
Thanks in advance

Re: Cutting alphabet
You can break the letters apart and put the insides and outsides on different layers and then choose the layer, in this case you would choose the layer with the inside of the alpha, and cut it that way. If you need to move the letters to a different layer, you select the shape, do a edit>cut, and then edit>Paste in place on a different layer.

I know MTC can do inside cuts first but I haven't figured out how to do it in SCAL.Jayne wrote:Is there a way of having scal cut letter from the inside to out...as in D maybe, cutting the inner of the D first then cutting the outside...i cut fondant and cannot do alphas using SCAL as it cuts outside then the inner and of course the fondant just collapses as there isnt anything to hold it in place...is this possible, is there a setting anywhere...ive just used a cricut cartridge and it cuts the inners first then the outside and it cuts perfectly.

Jane, personally, I don't use the layers option, but what Althea has suggested will work. This is what I did when I tried to figure it out. When you break apart the letter, the inside is one layer and the outside is another. In SCAL, clk on Window, then layer. Type your letter. Make sure it has the bounding box around it. Go to Object, click on break apart. The outside and inside are now seperated. Click on one or the other, right click and select cut, add another layer in the layer box by clicking on the little black arrow, right clk on the mouse and select past in place. When you click on the eyes in the layer box, you can open and close the layers. It will cut which ever layer is open on the mat.
Another way is to break apart and then hide the outer part of the letter, click show all, then hide the inner part. You can see it better if you zoom in a little. For a letter or number that has more than one inside cut, after you break it apart, hold down the shift key and click on the parts you want to hide together.
Hope I didn't confuse you more or give you some incorrect info. I'm not that familiar with SCAL and all that it can do. If I did, I hope someone will come along and correct it or explain it better. Thanks
As an afterthought I remembered that you'll find some great tutorials here:

Jayne, upload your file and someone can fix it for you.... Or if you want to try again, click on text tool, type desired word, click on selector tool, right click on word, click on Break Apart, select the insides of your letters (pressing shift to select more than one), right click on your selection and click on Cut, right click again and click on Paste in Place. When pasted, insides will still be selected by the bounding box. Right click on selection and click on Group. You should now be able to toggle on and off the two groups in the Layers box.
