Stuck with a CriCut machine!

Post by Heather »

Hi All,

the time has come and passed where I needed to upgrade my old and falling apart machine - an old windows PC to a nice new Mac - which is a LOT easier to use!!!. I had been running SCAL (ok v1 - but still running) with a CriCut machine - all good there. Now I've come to change SCAL over (as my pc has died now), I obviously need a new license for a Mac but now find that there is no way of downloading the software or license key. Support for my machine (the CriCut) is no longer available.

Is ebay my only option here or is there a way to migrate over to a Mac serial number (to be honest - I am willing to stay with v1 if that makes things any easier!)

Thanks
Heather.

Contact CraftEdge and see if they will allow you to convert your old PC version to a Mac version. Don't know what their answer will be, but it is worth a try.

I thought I did :-(

I used the 'contact tech support' page off the main web site - am sure it came up with a 'we usually respond within 2/3 days prompt at the end too :-)

Unless anyone knows of a more 'direct' address I could use?

Thanks again.

I haven't tried it, but you should be able to run your version of SCAL on a Windows emulator on your Mac. I think you are unlikely to be able to get a new license for SCAL2 now. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of Mac users that use the Windows version that way. HTH

Hi Heather

I did try running under an emulator, got windows all set up etc but then had a problem of trying to install the usb port driver - windows couldn't see it so refused to install the driver :-(

Looks like I'm running out of ideas here...

Any other good brands of cutting machine that will work with SCAL?

Depends on what you cut as to choice in machines. I have an expression, but I bought a Gazelle (awesome machine) and I also bought a Silhouette SD just for the dead on print and cut. The ECraft, Pazzles, then you have the big boys, The KNK Klic and Kut machines and the Black Cat Cougar. These machines are a bit more expensive but they are the BMW line of cutters. All work with SCAL3 (not sure about the KNK) but the others have the plugin in scal3. Do a search on machines to see what may be the best fit for you.
