Loading fonts into The Font Thing

I have saved fonts in a folder on a second drive. When I try to copy and paste them to the installed folder on the left hand side of the Font Thing it changes to a box, like it is going to copy, then I get the hourglass which stays there forever. When I click off the Font thing window and then click back on, it says NOT RESPONDING and I have to close it down. Can anyone help me. I'm not even sure I am describing my steps so someone can understand. Thanks for any help.
