The New Cricut Imagine machine

Do I see correct on the new Cricut Imagine that they have combined the Expression with HP ink cart's and you can print your own background patterns and cut the .cut designs out at the same time. This may be why all the Expressions are going to be so cheap. I tried to watch the video on the cricut site but wouldn't let me.

Has anyone else seen this and because they take their own imagine Cartridges will our SCAL work on the unit?

Good Point about all the machines for sale. I wonder if they are going to stop making the Expressions?

Don't know but have you seen the clip of the new machine? Neat idea about it printing in color off HP ink carts and then cutting the .cut designs out of the colored bkground. But I couldn't get the video play on my computer.

From what I have learned you are still and maybe more so at the mercy of PC for everything Just My Opinion But he is a link to Kays blog where she has been researching it

I really think that if this were the case.. that they were going to take them off the market they wouldn't haven continued to make the baby bug and cricut person w hen the expression came out... They will probaly lower the price if anything.. and don't forget the cricut cake which is also capable of using ordinary blades. and cartridges.

This is all very interesting. . . But I am wondering. . .Does anyone know if the Imagine will work with Sure Cuts A Lot 2??

Will craft edge update the site with this info? I would like to upgrade to the Imagine but not if it isn't compatible with SCAL--that I can't live without.

From what I have read on the Cricut mb right now not even the Gypsy will work with the Image machine although there is supposed to be some updating so it will eventually work and they said Design Studio will never work. A big issue seems to be the amount of ink you use and the cost. The color ink cartridge has all 3 colors in the one cartridge and a separate one for the black.

from what i hear they are not allowing any third party software to work with this their own software won't even work, but who needs it and why spend 600.00 for something that at least one part might not work after 2-3 years as that is the average life of the printer , you can do this with out even buying the machine with the printer you have and a graphics program and scal or MTC it is very easy to do. look at this blog here she does awesome work and all read some of her posts as she explains how she does it , I use a graphics program but not the same one she uses -i use corel paint shop pro x3 give it a try and see.

That's interesting. Her technique is:
1. Print item(s) to be cut on a piece of paper.
2. Make an outline of the printed items in MTC (you could do it in SCAL or Inkscape, too.)
3. Stick the "shadows" onto the printed page aligned with the items.
4. Print again.

You could probably get tricky and print only an outline in step 1 - this would save a lot of ink/toner. Use your graphics program to put a thin outline around the item. She doesn't mention how she adheres the cutouts to the printed page. With a laser printer it may work well because the paper gets mashed between rollers during the printing process so the cutout may not move around at all. I'm not sure it would work with an inkjet printer - but it's worth a try.

Folks around here have used essentially the opposite approach to do print & cut. They cut the outline out of a piece of paper, then print the image, then put the printed item under the cut shape, then cut again in the same place. It works OK for simple shapes, but large or complicated cuts turn into much frustration and hair pulling.
