Inkscape Help

Post by Renee »

Hi!
Would someone please tell me what I am doing wrong designing this file. I am trying to make a large skinny circle and it is not round one one side. It looks like it fits on the mat in the software before I send to cut. TIA for your help! I am sorry I am new to inkscape.

Why don't you just use one of the ovals on the Basic Shapes window shown when you click on the Shapes tab on the Library window? There is a vertical and a horizontal oval available.

Hi
I have tried to use the basic shapes and cut 2 of them but they line up in different spots and one cuts on top of the other instead of inside of the other. Thanks anyway!

Make 2 circles one inside the other.
In Inkscape:
Open your page
Draw a circle the size you need (drawing a thick circle will not give you a double cut as Inkscape will read it as a single line)
Select your circle then Ctrl D at this point you won't see any difference as the cloned image is put over the top of the original
With the circle still selected Path>Outset and hit this command as many times as you need to make the 'O' the thickness you need.
Then select all by clicking and dragging from the top left hand corner of your page to the bottom right hand corner- both the circles should be selected
then
Path>Exclusion and the dotted line round the inner circle should disappear
Go to the top tool bar and select inches as your measurement for the units box .
Then resize your frame, select all Path>Object to Path and save as .svg
Now import to SCAL and you should find you have your skinny O frame.

Susibi is one of our experts on Inkscape and gave you excellent instructions on creating the circles in Inkscape. You should also be able to do this in SCAL. Where do you place the circles on your mat? Resize the circles and line them up exactly as you want them cut. When finished, click on the magnifying glass icon the lines that will cut are shown in red.

Thanks so much! This worked great! Do you teach inkscape classes?
Thanks Renee
