how to make shaped cards

Post by Yontz710 »

I found a tutorial for another program that helps make shaped cards, in the example she used a penguin, and the card was the shape of a penguin. I have SCAL and love it, is there a way I can do it in SCAL? I only have SCAL 2.
Here is the tutorial link, I can't quite figure it out how to get it done in SCAL, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Get your basic shape svg animal, flower or other and try to keep to a simple outline/shape. Make size you require before breaking apart any layers. Place the top layers elsewhere on the mat or I create a second page for them. Then copy base layer, paste and flip it horizontally to give you a mirror image. Then align the copied base layer to the left of the original base layer and overlap slightly in a suitable place at side, eg: hands, feet, tummy. Or you can flip vertically and attach at the head. Outline both images and then go to path - union. This gives you your shaped card blank which you can then cut and crease along the joined sections. You can then cut and add all the additional layers to the card front.

Scrappydew has just posted a great gorilla svg that would lend itself perfectly to these card designs!

LOL Scrappydew has awesome files.. I won a great Fathers Day collection from them.... What I do for my cards though is grab the pieces if there isn't a base.. Place them together as close as I can then use path/union and then outset.. Perfect base every time :D
