Silly Question.. Why have a Blog?

Post by BJN »

I have been thinking about it so thought I would ask. What are the pros and con?. Is it difficult to put pictures and files on it. I love getting everyones feedback. I hate to jump into things... :D

I can't think of a good reason to have a blog unless you like sitting in front a computer alot and you like to share ideas with people. I did it for the challenge of doing it. I'm a few years above 65 and my brain needs all the activity I can muster. It wasn't that hard to create the blog using blogger.com. I was once a working girl and in the very olden days I wrote html code to create web pages for a living, you don't have to do that anymore but I did/do understand how it works.

I'm still futzing with my new blog to get the form and function the way I want it. It was fun writing about my experience with Cricut and SCAL and sharing some of the bumps along the way.

You can do it for free, you can take it down if you don't like it, and maybe you'll find some like minded folk to share with. Time is all you lose and you can gain alot.

Good Luck

Like any writing, there are a variety of purposes that you might have for doing it. There are all different kinds of blogs. Mine is a family update blog. I use it to let our friends and family know what is going on with us and to share photos. I also save the entries to use for scrapbook journaling. It is very easy. I also use Blogger (AKA Blogspot).

Some people have creative blogs where they share their creative work, like scrapbook layouts or crafts. Some have teaching blogs with tutorials and ideas that others can use. Some people blog about specific topics or areas of interest like religion or politics, and these blogs are comparable to magazine or newspaper articles or maybe op-ed pieces. Some do giveaways like Dan99 and his free SVG Saturdays and Susan BlueRobot and her free cut files. Some people just write about their thoughts and experiences, and if they are good writers, then people are interested in reading.

I think before you start a blog, you should have a purpose and an audience in mind. That is just basic good writing practice. Then you know where you are going.

I love it for the journaling part of my pictures. I went to scrap a page once and went back to where I had written about it in my blog and I didn't realize all that i had forgotten about the picture in such a short time. And it was already all written up i just had to print it out, or re-write it.
i also use it to share with fam and friends what's going on in our lives. and I feel like at least i'm documenting my childrens lives somewhere. I can't seem to remember to write in a journal so this is a close as it gets for me.

Wow! What a great reason for blogging!! I've been contemplating this. I've even had a few people ask me if I have one. I don't have a crafting blog because frankly, even though I'm a crafter, I don't have that much information to share with others. LOL

BUT... to share photos and other information with family, now that is a nifty idea. I'm always sending friends and family email updates with what is going on with our creatures (no kids). I could even keep Sophie the cat's "Catch and Release" statistics there. (Actually, we've decided to rename it to Maimed & Deceased because she is up to a total of 26 with only 7 of those being released back to nature.)

Thanks Julie!!

Kimberly

PS. I think it is amazing how something so easy needs to be sparked with someone else's post. :)

I had never contemplated a blog until this year and joined in a challenge to take a photo a day for a year. Little did i know at the outset what sort of year I was going to have  but I am pleased that I am doing the challenge because not only is it a record of my year but it keeps my friends and family informed too. :D

Shirley: I spent over an hour looking at your blog!! Thank you so much for sharing it. What an inspiration. I only wish I was as good with my SLR as you are with yours.

Question: Do you use a tripod for the pictures that you are in?

Anna I do use a tripod, I also have a remote control.
I used to use the time delay button but got fed up with rushing into the shot :P
So glad you enjoyed looking.

I have a blog but it is solely for those away from me to stay in contact (if they want to.)

It is rare that I post my projects there.
