precise cut

Post by geocida »

hello there!
I've bought scal yesterday and i'm playing with a job due to next friday: I have two 5cm circles and need to do a precise circle cut. I've made a vector file on illustrator and sent to printer, then got the vector svg file, sent to scal, aligned my paper to the mat and aligned my svg on scal.

Fine. But when i cut my vector the cut has a offset of about 4mm

Does anyone have a tip for me solve my job problem?

thanks a lot.

have you tried to draw circles directly from SCAL? You would have to measure the circle in inches because I don't think there metric is available at the moment. Just a thought.

i've tried to do that, wreed. But with no sucess, there was a sincronization problem inside SCAL

To understand what's happening i've got a laser printer transparency paper and, with a cricut color pen draw a square on scal. There is a offset in X=0,050 in and on Y=0,160 (on my ebug). On Cricut DS the offset exists too, but it is lower.
There is another problem: when i insert the mat, the ebug pulls it in every time in a different condition. There is always a 1mm difference.
Perhaps a offset adjustment on scal could (partly) solve this kind of problem.

Does anyone here uses cricut to cut inkjet printed papers?

Are you just trying to cut a circle in that exact size, or are you trying to draw it and then cut it? Or just draw it in a certain place?

Seems more simple to just cut out different circles from different colored cardstock without worrying about trying to cut out circles that match those on preprinted paper.

Could you use the Cricut pens to draw it and then cut it? Would that work? I haven't tried using my pens with SCAL.

The problem is that i NEED to use a preprinted page, because i need to cut a circle from that page.
I'm thinking that a wishblade were to be a better choice for my problem, but im brazil is really hard (and $$$) to find a cricut, i don't want to think in a wishblade.
i'm making a research and found that a offset adjustment on scal would be nice.

I cut preprinted paper often because I print a lot of my paper and then cut. The only advice I can give is to be flexible. When I have a design, I allow for the fact that it might not cut exactly where I want it to cut by so I add an extra border and make adjustments until I get what I want. The other cutters are better at doing the percise cut because you can print and then cut exactly what you printed.

I work around the mat loading in different places by not unloading the mat. Instead of pressing Unload Paper, I press Load Paper after each cut. The mat never comes out of the machine and loads in the same place. I remove the cut sheet and place the new sheet on the mat. Using this method, I start my paper at the 1" mark giving me room to remove and replace paper.

Great idea, AnointedHands! I'll try it when my ebug finish a very intrincated cut in vinyl. The problem is the designer that made very thin lines and my vinyl is getting destroyed....
