Wooden step stool paint? Vinyl?

Post by dolanqt »

Want to make a wooden step stool for my son and want to make a train and his name in scal to put on it. Because it's going to be stepped on all the time I wondered the best way to do it? Make a stencil and paint it? Find vinyl and do it?

Suggestions?

I also thought of using paper and mod poding it but I also worried it would cone up

How can u make a stencil so u could paint it and it would be clean edges. U couldn't glue it so what would u do.

Thanks!!!!!

If it is prefinished with a stain and varnish that is hard...I don't think vinyl would damage it for the short time it would take to paint and then remove slowly. If you are doing the base coat of paint or stain and varnish, I would just be sure it is good and dry for days.

Vinyl could very possibly be durable enough on its own and if it did peel off then you could go the paint method.

I say either or.

You can place your stencilled work on it and then use a varothane?? clear shellac over the top of it... to seal it and double protect it.. It's non slippery as well..

if you go the stencil route, I would go buy some contact paper at the dollar store and use that as your stencil. It has the sticky already there for you to place onto the stool and it is sooooo much cheaper than using vinyl would be.
