Newbie ?? with dingbats

I just installed SCAL today and am very excited about it. I downloaded a free Mickey Mouse dingbat from DaFonts.com and need some help. It is fully installed on my computer, but when I try to use it in SCAL all I get on my mat are empty squares. Does this mean it's an invalid font or am I doing something wrong?

I used 2 other fonts today with no problem. One I already had and one I downloaded and installed.

Not all letters of the alphabet have an icon. Try more of them including CAPS

I solved it accidentally. I waited awhile after clicking the name of the font and the little chart came up with all the characters, then I could do it. It seems like a font that takes a long time to load, so maybe I was being impatient trying to type letters too soon.
