no embossingpowder won't work!!!
you can use pearl ex powder or perfect pearls or the pigment powders from Blonde Moments use two parts water, a few drups of re-inker from distress ink en one or two little spoons with the powder and you have a perfect home made glimmer mist
i always make my own

Re: OT-Glimmer Mist
I just made a few bottles with just the pearlex and it is very pretty. I used alcohol so it dries a little faster. I can't find any more little spray bottles and I don't have any re-inker or ink to mix in. I'm sure it will end up costing more for me to make the colors than to just buy the glimmer mist if I want deep colors. lol But just the pearlex alone adds a very pretty sheen to flowers and embellishments.
Re: OT-Glimmer Mist
for the little bottles i use the mini misters from Tim Holtz, the reinkers distressink are from Ranger products
here in holland we can buy them at a lot of places and i thougt in u.s.a. on every corner LOL

Re: OT-Glimmer Mist
The way I've made mine is :
mix in hot water a little bit of clear glue and a few drops of acrylic paint and add in as much pearl ex as you like. I spray it and see if I like it and add more if needed.
I have about 20 different colors. Works pretty good for me. The reason I put glue in it is because unlike perfect pearls there is no binding agent in it. Pearl ex needs a fixative to keep it from coming off. I like the pearl ex because it comes in more colors than the perfect pearls.

You could use the tubes of watercolor or gouache paint (available at Michael's) for the color. I saw a jar of pearly additive in the paint section too, but didn't buy any to try. The gouache paint can also be used to re-ink your ink pads. http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/2 ... ssong-ink/
Re: OT-Glimmer Mist
hey everyone, so glad i got so many responses. I found Perfect Pearls at Joanns.
I still have not seen any reinkers. But i did buy some Walnut Ink spray. with my coupon. will that work? Not many variations in color but the distressy look i like.
I think i am gonna try some alcohol also for faster drying. i like that idea. I also did the acrylic paint idea. that actually is my only try so far. The Walnut Ink and Perfect Pearls is next. Gosh, i feel like i am in chemistry class.( heehee)
next time i go ALL THE WAY to Michaels i am gonna see what gouache paint is. Thanks everyone.

Re: OT-Glimmer Mist
I have been using the link below to make my Glimmer Mist for over a year and I love it. So many color options when you can use paint as your colorant instead of reinker.

Penny Duncan has a recipe on her blog. She uses hair spray in her mixture.
