New Expression cutting really deep!
New Expression cutting really deep!
As many of you know, after only TWO weeks, my friend Judy has upgraded to an Expression. Before I gave it to her, I decorated her machine with her name in Black Vinyl and a Cricut head. She really likes the way it looks and asked me if I would cut out another name and Cricut head for one of employees machines. So I go over to her house last night with my laptop and some vinyl. I cut her name first using 3 blade depth and 3 pressure. The machine cut right through the backing. Next I cut the Green part of the Cricut head raising the blade depth to 2. It still cut through the backing although not quite as deep. Next I cut the White part and I raised the blade depth to 1 and it still cut too deeply. What the heck is going on with her machine. I noticed that the bladeholder isn't metal like the one in my original machine. Could this have something to do with the excess cutting?

Did you change the pressure as well as blade setting? Mine cuts perfectly using 2depth 2pressure.

Not sure what's up Todd. Whenever I cut vinyl, I always set my settings to a depth of 6 and set my pressure at 2 and it hasn't failed me yet! It's sounds as though if you tried my settings, you might cut right through her mat! I hope you find a solution soon, good luck!

Todd, take one of your housings to try in her machine. Then you will know if it is the machine or the housing.

The vinyl cuts that I did were the very first cuts with the machine, I did take the blade housing out and checked anyway thinking something else might be caught up inside.

Todd,
I like the suggestion to bring your housing over and try that. Before you even install it you might be able to hold the 2 side by side and see the problem. I am told that there is a little magnet in the top of the housing that can rotate out of position and cause the blade to protrude too far. I'm not sure how easy it is fix it if that's the problem but at least you'd isolate the issue.

I just recently had a blade that I had a new blade where I had to go way off my normal settings in order to get it to cut right, In fact i had it set to 2-2-3 and walked right through card stalk, I forgot to change settings, I was surprised.but after a few sheets of card stock I had to change my setting back to normal. Then it started cutting my vinyl right.I was starting to think it was a deep cut blade

Won't the blade housing from the little Cricut work in the Expressions? It should. Try exchanging those to see if there is any difference.

Yes, I used to switch my two housings all of the time. One was metal and the other the newer plastic one. I don't remember if the settings needed to cut were different on them. I think I have the metal housing from my baby bug in my E right now.
