I have googled old fashioned scales, but they came up terrible when I put them on scal, I posted something last night, someone tried to help but it kept coming up as an error message.....Can anyone help me with this...Im getting really desperate now.

You are so welcome.. The original one if you viewed in outline mode in inkscape was nothing but a bunch of straight lines... viewing them normal seemed like they were wide but they weren't.. so I retraced the whole thing..
