I am chasing my tail here! I imported a scalloped circle and would like to cut text out of the center. I have merged everything
together but when I check the preview, my text is in gray and it only cuts out the scalloped circle. This has to be so simple. What am I missing?
Thanks so much!!!

Re: Cutting text out of the inside of an imported shape
You don't need to weld the letters, just place them where you want them and they will cut out of the scallop. If you want to keep them together you can use Object/Group. Also keep in mind that unless you are using a stencil style font, the centers of letters like a, o, and d will not be attached to anything. HTH

Thanks, Heather, for the quick reply. I didn't weld, only grouped. I thought the text would cut right out of the circle but it didn't. Even in the preview the letters are in gray indicating that they won't cut but I don't know why?

I've tried everything I can think of to get what you are describing, and I can't do it. What version of SCAL are you using?
Re: Cutting text out of the inside of an imported shape
I'm using version 2 on a mac.
I just had some success. I selected each character from the font table instead of typing on the keyboard. For some reason it works this way and not the other. Strange!!
Thanks for taking time to help!

are you doing the text first, then putting the scallop on top? If you are, make the text the top layer.
